A CHARITY football match will be held at Droitwich Leisure Centre next Sunday (July 3) to raise funds for Cancer Research UK and Velindre Cancer Centre in Wales.
It is the third event of its kind to have been organised by childhood best friends Greg Unitt and Christian Dashey who captain each of the teams.
The Velindre Cancer Centre helped Greg’s sister-in-law Rebecca Lewis-Rock have more priceless time with her family before she sadly passed away at the end of September 2015.
Everyone is welcome to the event to watch the match and, as well as the football, there will be stalls selling baked goods and drinks provided by friends and family members.
Greg said any donation would be appreciated as all proceeds would go to the two charities.
“Its been an incredibly tough few years for myself and family but I’ve realised thousands more families suffer what we have, which is extremely upsetting.
“My aim the past two years was to raise money for Becks (Rebecca) to donate to whichever charities she chose.
“This year she sadly isn’t with us after losing her battle so I’ve organised this event again to celebrate her life as well as help other families avoid such heartbreak.”
“As serious as the occasion is in terms of raising money, it sure is going to be a great event full of laughter and smiles, especially as a few players don’t actually play football so its exciting to see who will end up on their backside.”
Christian added: “Over the past few years we have been overwhelmed and encouraged by families, friends and other generous supporters in raising money for cancer victims.
“As players of all abilities, and spectators on the day, it will be fantastic to come together as a community to remember loved ones who have suffered, or are suffering, this struggle.”
