DROITWICH Spa Cricket Club slipped to an eight-wicket defeat against title challengers Worcester CC after being skittled for just 67.
Spa struggled with the bat as only Max Young (15) and opener Martyn Davies (12) reached double figures.
And after Worcester bowled out the home side in 31.2 overs, the visitors made light work of the reply, reaching the required total in 12.1 overs for the loss of two wickets at St Peter’s Playing Fields.
The result means Droitwich sit sixth in Division One of the Worcestershire County League.
After losing the toss, Droitwich saw both Harry Butler and Sam Woolley depart for ducks to the bowling of Hamid Ali (3-16).
And Charlie Weaver (2-19) then trapped Davies LBW to leave Spa in trouble on 20-3.
Droitwich’s struggles with the bat continued as James Nielsen fell for a four-ball duck to the bowling of Weaver while Ali accounted for Darryn Bancroft (1) to leave the home side on 24-5.
Spa put on 22 runs for their sixth wicket before Luke Deeprose (2-12) bowled Wasim Aslam (7) and trapped Jez Hanson (0) LBW.
Young dug in but eventually succumbed to the bowling of Jabran Khalid (2-12) while the latter also accounted for Sam Smith (0).
Obaidullah Sherzad (7 not out) offered some late resistance as Lewis Franklin (1-5) claimed the wicket of Akhtar Iqbal (8) to bring an end to Spa’s innings.
Some wayward bowling from Worcester meant extras (17) top scored for Spa who were all out for just 67.
Droitwich made the perfect start with the ball as Sherzad (1-25) took the wicket of Sharafat Hussain (0) with the first delivery of the Worcester innings.
However, the visitors soon found their rhythm as Elijah Ward-Armstrong (50 not out) scored an excellent half-century from just 35 balls.
Iqbal (1-11) bowled Chris Jones (6) to leave Worcester on 38-2 as Ward-Armstrong and Shameer Ahmed (10 not out) guided the visitors to victory.
